Texas at Oklahoma Betting Preview (2/16/2021)

Texas at Oklahoma Rescheduled

Tuesday’s matchup between rivals the Univesity of Texas at Austin versus the University of Oklahoma was postponed until Wednesday night due to severe weather in the midwest. Texas and Oklahoma are states known for normally very good weather and not cold temperatures. Right now, the entire United States is battling cold temperatures leading to ice and unsafe travel conditions.

For once, Covid-19 is not the reason for cancellations of sporting events right now, but the current conditions are bad enough to cancel the game. Tip-off is scheduled in Normal for 7 p.m.

Top Teams Clash

Not only is the rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma a reason to be excited about this game, but both teams are also currently ranked in the top 15 of college basketball. The No. 12 longhorns are led by guard Andrew Jones who is scoring 15.9 points per game. Guard Courtney Ramsey has done an exceptional job complementing Jones for Texas, scoring 13.2 points per game with a 40.5 three-point percentage.

The No. 9 ranked Oklahoma Sooners are led by guard Austin Reaves who leads the team in points per game with 16.6, assists per game with 5.4, and rebounds per game with 5.6. Reaves seems to do it all for the Sooners and recently earned Co-Big 12 conference Player of the Week honors. In the Sooner’s last game, Reaves’ game-winning floater was the difference in a two overtime thriller against West Virginia University.

Previous Matchup

This is not the first time in the season that the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners played each other. These teams are familiar with each other and each other’s opponents. When the two first played each other back on Jan. 25, the Longhorns were ranked No. 5, and Oklahoma was just barely in the top 25 at No. 24. A lot has changed since that game, and now Oklahoma finds themselves ahead of the Longhorns.

Oklahoma came into that matchup as +5.5 underdogs, and not only did they cover the spread, but they also won the game outright. For their second matchup of the season, I expect vegas to give much different odds and expect Oklahoma to be home favorites. On the season, Oklahoma is a much better team at home with a record of (10-1).

Recently Oklahoma has won their games by very slim margins, and it will be critical for Texas to keep this one close and capitalize late.

Last Five Games

Texas (2-3)

The Longhorns have begun to turn things around following a three-game losing streak, which included a loss at home to Oklahoma. As a team from the Big 12, Texas features a season schedule very similar to Oklahoma. Of late, Texas has struggled against ranked teams but has been able to keep a majority of its games close.

Oklahoma (4-1)

Texas at Oklahoma

Oklahoma is the much hotter team coming into this one. The Sooners have been on a tear, winning 7 of their last eight games, including an 80-79 win over Texas a few weeks ago. Oklahoma has been tested with very good competition recently and has performed well.

Oklahoma has a big test against No. 2 Baylor University postponed recently, giving them a major break.

Prediction: Oklahoma ML

This is going to be a good game, and it is a shame that Lloyd Noble Center will not be rocking. Oklahoma has proved recently that they have been able to keep up with top-level NCAA competition and has beaten Texas once before. This is going to be a high paced high scoring game that Oklahoma will squeak out.

Expect this game to be very close and come down to the last few minutes, if not overtime.
