On Wednesday, June 30th, the Western Conference Finals return to the Staples Center with Suns vs Clippers game 6. Paul George and the Clippers will try to knot up the series at 3 against Devin Booker and the Suns.
Series Recap
This has been an amazing series up until this point. One that could have been over in the Clippers favor had a few plays gone differently. The Clippers fell in Game 2 on a Deandre Ayton alley-oop dunk with less than a second on the clock after Paul George missed 2 free throws which surely would have iced the game. Then in Game 4 at home the Clippers failed to capitalize in the 4th quarter scoring just 14 points.
However, what could have been does not matter and the Clippers are trying to dig out of a 3-1 hole and the Suns are one victory away from the NBA Finals. The Clippers got 1 of the three wins needed in Game 5 in Phoenix in a game in which they looked unstoppable.
Now they return home in need of two more wins, but coach Ty Lue says they are taking it one game at a time.
Suns vs Clippers Game 6 Preview
Besides his 2 missed free throws Paul George has stepped up and is filling the void Kawhi Leonard left with his injury. George is leading the Clippers in points (30.2), assists (6.2), and steals (1.4) in this series. Paul George has had lots of criticism but has stepped up and put this Clippers team in a spot to advance to the Finals.
Reggie Jackson who is averaging 21.8 points in this series has been a major piece and is going to have to keep up his production in order for the Clippers to win. Ivica Zubac has also seen more minutes in this series averaging a double-double. He has had a tough assignment trying to guard Deandre Ayton who has been amazing throughout the playoffs.
Devin Booker has struggled in this series. He is averaging 26.2 points, but only on 38.2% shooting. Chris Paul is also struggling to shoot with just 31.7% from the field. However, he has still kept his high assist total averaging 9 per game.
Deandre Ayton has been unstoppable in this series. He is averaging 18.2 points per game and 13 rebounds. He is shooting 67.7% from the field. When Ayton gets the ball in the low post it has led to a basket a majority of the time in this series. He has also been amazing on the offensive glass averaging 4.4 offensive rebounds per game.
This series has been extremely close. Both teams continue to answer the bell when they fall behind. The Clippers have found themselves on the wrong end of the close games. The Clippers actually have a 17 point advantage in the total series scoring.
Suns vs Clippers Game 6 Pick
I think the home-court advantage is going to be huge for the Clippers here. They are riding momentum, and their fans are going to have lots of hope after the win in Phoenix. Paul George has really stepped up and Reggie Jackson has been a huge help on offense.
If the Clippers can continue to hold Paul and Booker in check I think we will see a Game 7.
My Picks: Clippers -110
Paul George o30.5 Points
