Kent State Football Preview 2022

Kent State Football

Kent State football

Kent State football, known as the Golden Flashes, will miss MAC Player of the Year Dustin Crum. The quarterback graduated and will turn over the offense to Collin Schlee. Head Coach Sean Lewis is still pumped about his offense this season with the quality players that are returning.

Marquis Cooper finished with 1,205 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns and grad student Xavier Williams completed 812 yards rushing  but junior ante Cooper became first team in the conference with over 1,000 yards. Experience in the offensive line will be aided transfer guard Kevin Toth and Michigan State tackle Nolan Rumler.

Defensively, the Golden Flashes has Jeremiah Johnson taking over as coordinator after the previous nine years at Iowa State. The strength for this squad lies in their safety position with Dean Clark leading the way. Last year he had 117 tackles and Nico Bolden with 83 tackles. Added to the mix is Marshall transfer Jo Jo Evans. Cornerback Montre Miller returns. It was his interception in the game against Miami (Ohio) that clinched the East Division of the MAC.

Expect quarterback Collin Schlee to put up big numbers on the season with an up-tempo game. The primary concern her head coach Sean Lewis will be to replace starter on the offensive line. If this team stays healthy, it should compete for the top spot in the Est Division.

Kent State Football Schedule

In 2021, the Golden Flashes finished 7-7 on the year and 6-2 in conference. In 2022, things could improve, however, they have a tough non-conference start to the year with games at Washington and at Oklahoma to start the season and in game four they travel to Georgia. Look for possible two conference losses and this football team finishes at 8-4.
