The Cleveland Indians will host the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:10 ET on Tuesday, July 27th. This is a big game for both of these teams who have not yet made any big decisions on what they will do when the trade deadline hits.
Both teams are right around .500 and chasing down the 2nd wild card spots in their respective leagues. I think the team who ends up losing this series will become sellers come Friday.
Cardinals at Indians Preview
This game will feature Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright and Cal Quantrill. I feel like everytime I look through the starting matchups the Cardinals have Wainwright on the bump. Tomorrow will be his 20th start of the season which will put him just 2 off the major league lead. Quantrill on the other hand will be making just his 11th start, but 29th appearance on the year.

This is an interesting matchup because both of these guys have had flashes of excellence, but have also struggled at times. Wainwright has a 3.56 ERA and has given up 1.129 WHIP which is 25th in the entire league. Quantrill, on the other hand, has a 3.84 ERA and has surrendered 1.349 WHIP.
The Indians have the 5th worst batting average in baseball, and the Cardinals have the 8th worst. No offensive statistics really stand out for either team besides the fact that they both have lower than average strikeout rates. Both teams put the ball in play at a high rate; they just have not been able to manufacture many hits this season.
Both teams have solid lineups. It has just been a struggle for both sides. Both Jose Ramirez and Nolan Arenado have hit 20 HRs. There is plenty of power in both lineups with Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, and Tyler O’neill for the Cardinals. Jose Ramirez, Franmil Reyes, and Cesar Hernandez for the Indians.
The Pick
This is a tough game to pick because both teams have been streaky. I do think something has to give with the total. These two lineups are too good to be in the bottom half of baseball in offensive statistics.
I think the Cards will have their way with Quantrill and I think the Indians will get to Wainwright who has been susceptible to giving up home runs with 15 on the year. Look for a high-scoring affair in Cleveland.
My Pick: Over 9 (-110)
